We reached Nha Trang near dusk but managed to get our first quick glimpse of the beach.

Miles of clean sand and ribbons of white sea foam.

And in the background, distant islands make for a picturesque view.

I love beaches.

This is me monkeying around.

It's such a treat to be out where the air is fresh and the sun is your mild-mannered friend. Heh.

The waves were very strong.

For dinner, we splurged on fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants around the area.

We went crazy over the variety.

We tried a bit of everything.
Kangkong is a must-have.

We had lobster and clams, both stir fried Chinese style.

Grilled tiger prawns eaten plain with a sprinkle of salt and pepper and a squeeze of lime.

Grilled squid and tom yam soup.

After dinner, there was ice-cream and good flavours too.

Caramel, tropical fruit, milk coffee. Yum.

For breakfast, Nha Trang happily had a Pho 24 outlet!

I like how they make their fruit shakes - creamy yet light with real fruit.

We went island hopping with friends. Our tour operator was very 'creatively' named "No. 4 Boat Trip". Hahaha.

The first stop was some dinky aquarium.

I was not keen on it so we sat by the jetty and let the fishes nibble our toes.

Back on the boat, we had a huge lunch spread of seafood dishes, crusty baguette, rice, noodles, soup and more.

The fried fish was very tasty.

Man, I like just looking at the spread.

After lunch, we were served a tropical fruit fiesta. Look at all the colours!

But of course, the highlight of the day trip was all the swimming, snorkelling and splashing we did.

Our friends joined the happy hour programme and were sucked into participating in a drinking game. Lol.

Happy hour also included dancing to the beats and singing of a Vietnamese 'boy band'.

None of us were spared. Here's Ann from Washington DC being made to sing. The rest of us were forced to get on the dance floor and wiggle our wet bottoms.

We made a final stop at a quiet resort.

Some fell asleep on the wooden deck chairs.

Others had drinks.

I swam some more, looking out for sunken round basket boats, tiny crabs and small fish.

Back from the day trip, we went looking for more grub.

We found a stall on a street corner selling all types of shell fish.

We ordered a plate of everything for about S$7.

I loved the scallops, mussels and snails.

Aidil liked the 2 different types of cockles and ate them dipped with a sweet and spicy homemade chilli-lime-fish sauce.

But my favourite was this seafood congee. All the leftover shell fish bits and odds and ends were dumped into a pot and left to simmer for hours over a low heat. Oh man, so damn good.

We left Nha Trang a tad too soon for my liking but we had no choice because we had a tight schedule - backpacking our way from Saigon in the south, passing through central Hue and up north to Hanoi.

This is the sleeper bus. My upper deck bed was pretty comfy for me because I am petite. I slept well but snored too loudly, I think. Ann slept next to me. She later told me she slept for 2 hours at most. Poor thing.
